Young Lawyer Arraigned for Allegedly Defrauding US-Based Nurse of $150,000

A 28-year-old lawyer, identified as Magdalene Aba Amporful, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a U.S.-based nurse of $150,000 under false pretences.

According to court proceedings, the accused is alleged to have presented herself as capable of facilitating legitimate business, employment, or investment opportunities for the victim. Based on this representation, the complainant reportedly transferred large sums of money to the lawyer over a period of time, believing the funds were being used for genuine purposes.

Prosecutors told the court that investigations revealed the money was allegedly obtained through deceptive claims and misrepresentation, with no real investment or legitimate transaction carried out as promised. The victim, a nurse residing in the United States, later realized that the promises made were not being fulfilled and reported the matter to the authorities.
