A new video has surfaced showing the aftermath of missile strikes on a Ghanaian peacekeeping base in Lebanon, highlighting the dangers faced by soldiers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The footage captures the chaos at the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters shortly after the base was struck, with medical personnel attending to injured soldiers and damage visible throughout the camp.
The missile attacks reportedly left two Ghanaian soldiers critically injured, while another suffered trauma during the incident. The injured personnel were immediately treated at a medical bunker within the UN camp and later prepared for evacuation to a referral hospital under the supervision of UN medical staff. Military authorities confirmed that parts of the facility, including the officers’ mess, were severely damaged and destroyed by fire caused by the explosions.
The attack occurred amid heightened tensions in southern Lebanon, with ongoing exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Ghanaian authorities have expressed concern for the welfare of their troops, assuring that the injured soldiers have the full support of the nation. They emphasized that the soldiers can rely on the country’s prayers, love, and unwavering backing as they recover from the attack.
In response to the incident, the Government of Ghana has formally lodged a protest with the United Nations, demanding a full, impartial, and transparent investigation. Officials stressed that UN peacekeeping bases are protected under international law and that any attack on them constitutes a serious violation. Ghana has called for accountability and enhanced protection measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
The video has drawn widespread attention on social media, with citizens and international observers expressing solidarity with the injured peacekeepers. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by Ghanaian soldiers deployed in conflict zones while contributing to global peace and security. The government continues to monitor the situation closely and has vowed to pursue justice for its gallant troops, highlighting the nation’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of its military personnel serving abroad.
