Parus Electro LLC, a subsidiary of the Rosatom Group, has developed a prototype of Russia’s first domestically produced string inverter, marking a significant step in the country’s renewable energy and power electronics capabilities. The new device is designed to convert direct current (DC) generated by solar panels into alternating current (AC), enabling the safe and efficient transmission of electricity through power grids to end users.
According to the company, the string inverter prototype enhances the reliability and efficiency of solar power generation, particularly under challenging weather conditions. By stabilizing output during cloudy periods and winter months, the technology increases the overall number of productive generation hours throughout the day, helping solar plants deliver more consistent energy.
One of the key advantages of the new inverter is its ability to operate in extreme climates. The device is engineered to function reliably across a wide temperature range, from –50°C to +65°C, making it suitable for deployment in remote and harsh environments. It is capable of maintaining stable voltage levels even in areas with weak or isolated grid infrastructure, supporting broader access to renewable energy.
The inverter has been designed for versatility, allowing it to be used in both large-scale, ground-mounted industrial solar power plants and smaller rooftop installations. It supports adaptive reactive power management that can be customized to the requirements of specific grid operators, ensuring compatibility with different power systems. In addition, the device can be integrated with energy storage systems, enabling both grid-connected and hybrid operating modes.
A distinguishing feature of the new inverter is its modular architecture. Unlike conventional designs that require extensive dismantling during repairs, the Parus Electro inverter allows individual power supply modules to be replaced without removing the entire unit. This significantly reduces maintenance and repair time—from dozens of hours to just a few minutes—while also minimizing energy generation losses during downtime.
The prototype delivers a reported efficiency rate of 98.3%, placing it among the high-performing inverter solutions currently available on the market. Its robust construction enables it to withstand a wide range of climatic conditions, reinforcing its suitability for diverse geographic regions and operational environments.
Parus Electro noted that more than 90% of the inverter’s components are sourced domestically, underscoring Russia’s focus on strengthening local manufacturing and technological independence. The company plans to deploy production at its own facilities, with serial production scheduled to begin in 2026.
The inverter project forms part of a broader portfolio of innovation and international engagement by Russian technology companies. Rosatom, Parus Electro’s parent group, has recently achieved several milestones, including the installation of a reactor vessel at Unit 1 of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt. Preparatory work is also underway for the construction of a 200-megawatt solar power plant in Mali, to be developed with Rosatom’s support.
In addition, progress continues on international scientific collaboration, with the first of four Russian test stands already delivered to the construction site of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in southern France.
Together, these developments highlight Russia’s growing role in advancing energy technologies across nuclear, solar, and fusion sectors, while positioning its innovations for both domestic use and international markets.
