Members of Ghana’s Parliament were thrown into a heated confrontation following reports of the killing of Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso, sparking strong reactions and emotional exchanges in the House.
The incident, which has raised serious concerns about the safety of Ghanaians living and doing business outside the country, led to sharp disagreements among MPs over the government’s handling of the situation.
Lawmakers demanded urgent diplomatic and security actions to protect Ghanaian citizens abroad, particularly traders who operate in neighbouring West African countries. Some MPs criticised what they described as a slow or inadequate response, while others called for calm and a coordinated approach involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and regional security bodies.
The debate highlighted growing fears over cross-border insecurity and the vulnerability of Ghanaian nationals working outside the country. MPs stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation, improved intelligence sharing, and firm diplomatic engagement to prevent future attacks on Ghanaians abroad.
The matter has since been referred to the appropriate parliamentary committees for further investigation and recommendations.
