Former President John Dramani Mahama has addressed calls from a citizen who urged him to consider contesting for a third term as President of Ghana.
The appeal reportedly came from an admirer who praised Mahama’s leadership and encouraged him to return to office beyond the constitutional limit. However, Mahama firmly dismissed the idea, stressing that Ghana’s laws do not permit any president to serve more than two terms.
He explained that the country’s constitution clearly outlines presidential term limits, and he remains committed to respecting those provisions. According to him, leadership must always be guided by the rule of law rather than personal ambition or public pressure.
Mahama’s response highlights his stance on protecting Ghana’s democratic principles and ensuring that constitutional guidelines are upheld at all times.
The debate around a possible third-term presidency occasionally resurfaces in Ghana’s political discussions, but his comments reaffirm his position that such a move is not an option under the current legal framework.
“Mr President if you don’t contest again I will take you to court”
