Dumasua, a village located in Ghana’s Bono Region, is gaining national attention after undergoing a remarkable transformation led by its traditional leader, Nana Ayebiafo Jnana. Through a series of community-focused development projects, the chief has introduced modern infrastructure and technology that are helping to improve security, connectivity and social life for residents.
One of the most notable initiatives is the installation of CCTV cameras across the village. The surveillance system was recently inaugurated to monitor activities within the community and strengthen security. The cameras are strategically placed in key locations to help deter crime and assist authorities in maintaining law and order.
Residents say the initiative has already increased their sense of safety, as the system allows for better monitoring of public spaces and roads within the village.
In addition to the security system, Nana Ayebiafo Jnana has also introduced free Wi-Fi services for the entire community. The internet connectivity is expected to benefit students, entrepreneurs and residents who rely on digital access for education, communication and business activities. For many young people in the village, access to free internet services provides new opportunities to study online, explore digital skills and connect with the wider world.
Community members believe the Wi-Fi initiative will help bridge the technological gap that often exists between rural and urban areas in Ghana.
To further strengthen security in the area, Nana Ayebiafo Jnana has also constructed an ultra-modern police station in the village. The facility is designed to provide a comfortable and functional environment for security personnel stationed in the community. The police station includes six apartments for officers, allowing personnel to live within the community they serve. It also features a car park, Wi-Fi connectivity and a conference room where meetings and official engagements can be held.
Residents say the presence of a well-equipped police facility will improve security response and help maintain peace in the area.
Beyond security and technology, the traditional leader has also invested in strengthening social interaction within the village by constructing a modern community centre. The centre is designed to host a wide range of activities including games, meetings, wedding ceremonies, funeral observations and other community gatherings. The facility provides residents with a central location where they can hold important social events and strengthen community bonds.
The transformation of Dumasua was driven by the creation of the Dumasua Nkosuo Foundation, an initiative introduced by Nana Ayebiafo Jnana to support development projects in the village. The foundation partnered with the Transformation 108 Foundation, a non-governmental organization that shares the goal of promoting sustainable community development. Through this partnership, several infrastructure projects have been successfully implemented in the village.
Aside from the infrastructure improvements, Dumasua has also gained recognition for its exceptional environmental sanitation. The village is widely regarded as one of the cleanest communities in Ghana, a reputation residents are proud to maintain. Local leaders attribute this achievement to strong community participation, effective leadership and consistent sanitation practices among residents.
The transformation of Dumasua demonstrates how visionary leadership and collaboration can significantly improve living conditions in rural communities. With modern security systems, free internet access and improved social infrastructure, the village is increasingly being viewed as a model for rural development in Ghana. Observers say initiatives like those introduced by Nana Ayebiafo Jnana could inspire other communities across the country to pursue similar development projects.
