Police Intercept 4,000 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics Hidden in Truck at Dambai

Security agencies in Ghana’s Oti Region have made a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking after intercepting 4,000 parcels of suspected narcotics concealed inside a trailer truck at Dambai.

The interception was carried out following an intelligence-led operation by the Oti Regional Police Command. Officers stopped a DAF long trailer truck during a routine security operation after receiving credible information about suspicious activity. Although the vehicle initially appeared to be empty, a detailed inspection revealed that it had been specially modified with hidden compartments beneath the trailer.

Upon opening the concealed sections, police discovered thousands of parcels of a compressed, leaf-like substance tightly wrapped in yellow masking tape. The substances are believed to be narcotics, although laboratory tests are expected to be conducted to confirm their exact composition.

The driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Amidu Jubril, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody to assist with investigations. The truck has been impounded, and the seized parcels have been secured as evidence. Authorities are currently working to determine the origin of the consignment, its intended destination, and whether the suspect is part of a wider drug trafficking network.

Police officials say the operation highlights the increasing sophistication of criminal networks, which now use modified commercial vehicles and hidden compartments to transport illegal substances across regions and borders. The use of ordinary cargo vehicles to disguise illicit activities has become a growing concern for law-enforcement agencies across the country.

The Oti Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-based operations, especially along key transport routes and transit corridors that are vulnerable to smuggling activities. Officials say coordinated efforts between regional commands, highway patrol units, and intelligence services are critical to disrupting the movement of illegal drugs.

Authorities have also called on the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements, unusual vehicle modifications, or any information that could assist ongoing investigations. Community cooperation, they stress, plays an important role in strengthening national security and crime prevention efforts.

As investigations continue, police are expected to pursue further arrests if evidence links other individuals to the operation. Legal processes will follow once the nature of the substances is officially confirmed through forensic analysis.
