Mr. Seth Ameyaw Danquah, a well-known tourism advocate and the Chief Executive Officer of Despite Travels, is set to represent Ghana at the 29th edition of the East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Exhibition (EMITT) in Istanbul, Türkiye.
The prestigious tourism fair will take place from February 5 to 7, 2026, at the Istanbul Expo Centre (IFM). EMITT is ranked among the world’s top five tourism and travel exhibitions, attracting industry leaders, destination marketers, tour operators, investors, and media professionals from across the globe. The event serves as a strategic platform for networking, showcasing destinations, discovering emerging travel trends, and forming international partnerships that shape the future of global tourism.
Participating in a dual role as both a media professional and a tourism stakeholder, Mr. Danquah’s mission is to project Ghana’s rich tourism offerings to the Eurasian market, with a strong emphasis on sustainable tourism development and investment opportunities.
A major highlight of his promotional agenda will be Ghana’s Western Region, often described as the “Western Jewel” of the country’s tourism landscape. The region is celebrated for its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical landmarks, making it one of Ghana’s most promising but underexplored tourism destinations.
Speaking ahead of his departure, Mr. Danquah stressed that his participation at EMITT 2026 aligns with a broader goal of positioning Ghana as the leading destination for eco-tourism, heritage tourism, and adventure travel in West Africa.
“The Western Region has a rare combination of history, culture, and nature that the global tourism market is actively seeking,” he noted. “From the ancient stilt village of Nzulezu and the unspoiled beaches of Busua to the historical significance of Fort St. Antonio in Axim, the region offers authentic experiences that tell Ghana’s story in a powerful way. My aim is to ensure that Turkish and international investors see Ghana not merely as a destination, but as a hub for sustainable tourism and cultural preservation.”
Beyond the Western Region, Mr. Danquah will also promote Ghana’s national tourism initiatives, including the government’s flagship “Beyond the Return” campaign. The initiative continues to strengthen diaspora engagement by encouraging people of African descent to reconnect with Ghana through tourism, business, and cultural exchange, while also stimulating foreign direct investment in the sector.
EMITT 2026 is expected to host more than 600 hosted tour operators and welcome thousands of visitors from over 100 countries. This scale presents a significant opportunity for Ghana to tap into the growing global interest in African destinations, particularly as travellers increasingly seek authentic, experience-driven, and sustainable travel options.
Mr. Danquah’s participation is anticipated to generate extensive media exposure for Ghana at the exhibition, while also facilitating direct business-to-business (B2B) connections between Ghanaian tour operators and their counterparts in the East Mediterranean and Eurasian regions.
Through strategic engagement, storytelling, and partnership building, his presence at EMITT 2026 is expected to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s long-term tourism growth agenda and strengthen the country’s visibility on the global tourism map.
